I love how the guy who gets kicked in the nuts for a living has a more informed and nuanced take on VR than the professional gaming “journalists”. Go figure.
Please never refer to us as vg “journalists” again… we called the show outsiders for a reason. Haha 😉 However, using my daydream vr is/was enough for me, I have no interest in picking one up until they go full wireless and the price comes down. I worry though it’s all going to blow over before then, and never hit mainstream anytime in the future, which would be a shame. Still want John to go try it over at Matt MCs
I didn’t mean you guys, I meant the IGNs and Polygons and Giant Bombs out there that were full steam hyping up VR like it was going to hit the market and be an instant game changer in it’s current iteration. They were hardcore shilling for like two years before the hardware launched, demoing the units at tradeshows and reporting how the technology was perfected, and there’s no going back, etc. Now that it’s available to the public and the limitations are apparent… (crickets). Meanwhile, people like Eric literally took kicks to the balls to afford them.
You’re right that a wireless headset is progress, but even then I’m not sure if certain problems can be solved to make it more than a gimmick or a screen you strap to your face. Mainly: controller input (motion controls are iffy) and the space required for true “virtual reality”. Having four feet of clear space was a complaint for Kinect (among other things), so unless everyone plans on having omnidirectional treadmills in their homes (https://youtu.be/7S0EshM9lM4)…
LOL. Okay, phew! And yeah, Eric seemed to have a good “grip” on the VR shit… and balls.
Even though I’m still intrigued by VR, the fact that they’ve only sold, collectively, 6 million units means it’s just a niche gaming platform and doesn’t warrant in-depth coverage. Kind of like the Switch (IMO)
Even real journalistic outlets barely touch on VR. Comparatively, VGO has actually had a lot of VR coverage. There’s been at least 4 shows with a VR segment and the verdict was this: 1. You have to experience it to understand it., and 2. there’s no killer app. I’m not sure how much farther you can take VR news by talking about it on an audio gaming podcast. There’s not anything new there.
That Fable game was a kick starter project… RIP
Eric certainly has an interesting job. Pics of getting kicked in the nards makes me more uncomfortable than James Comey at a Trump rally.
I still have not gone to his Twitter, seeing the dick of a guy I did a show with just seems… wrong 😉
Oh, there’s lots of things wrong there. Yet I can’t look away.
